Growing up (and out) with nature

Image2.jpg

Julia and Steve live with their young daughter in a rammed earth house on a residential rural property in Hillwood on the banks of kanamaluka / Tamar. A very beautiful part of the world! They came to us seeking help to extend their living space, namely a new parental suite and a bigger laundry. Julia and Steve wanted to experiment with hempcrete for this extension given the thermal efficiency and natural values of this building material.

We are currently developing a landscape concept plan to better integrate this building into its environment once the extension is constructed. Julia and Steve would like their young daughter to have more opportunities for active and nature play, whilst staying out of way of the sun's harm. Whilst the initial brief is for more trees to provide shade, we are looking at alternatives to fulfill that function that also increase vegetation type and structure on site. This diversity will attract more fauna to this property, especially the birds that this family loves.
